Thank You, Steve

At this year’s AGM, we said a heartfelt goodbye to one of our longest-serving and most dedicated trustees, Steve Masters, who has made the difficult decision to step down from the Eight Bells Board.

Steve joined Eight Bells in 2017 and became Chair of Trustees in January 2018. He brought with him not only professional experience, including two decades of service in the Royal Air Force, but also a personal understanding of the mental health challenges faced by so many in our community.

Steve’s leadership was hands-on and heartfelt. He attended sessions, took part in activities, and supported our members with genuine warmth and humility. He led efforts to secure long-term funding and financial sustainability for Eight Bells and played a key role in shaping the charity’s direction.

When Steve stepped down as Chair in 2020 due to his own mental health, he continued to serve on the Board and remained a passionate advocate for the work we do. Recently, Steve shared how proud he was to have seen Eight Bells grow and reach more people, and how much he wishes something like Eight Bells had existed when he was struggling.

Although stepping back from trustee duties, Steve has made it clear he still considers himself part of the Eight Bells family, and we’re so glad he does.

From everyone at Eight Bells, members, staff, volunteers, and fellow trustees, past and present – thank you Steve, for your leadership, your kindness, and your belief in what we do. You’ve made a lasting difference.
